Nicole Richie pleaded not guilty to DUI charges stemming from her December (06) arrest in Los Angeles.

'The Simple Life' star did not appear for the hearing at Glendale Superior Court in Los Angeles. So her lawyer, Shawn Chapman, entered the plea on the actress's behalf. Richie's next court date is April 2.
Richie's case also contains an allegation that she had a prior misdemeanor DUI conviction in June 2003. And she faces mandatory jail time of 90 days and up to one year in prison if convicted of a second DUI.
The 25-year-old was pulled over for driving on the wrong side of the 134 freeway in Los Angeles on 11 December (06). And Nicole confessed to the police on the scene that she had taken vicodin and smoked some weed.
I don't understand how she pleaded not guilty when she herself confessed of taking vicodin and smoking weed.
